A place for adults to discuss living with epilepsy.
My goal is to create a community from a layperson’s perspective that recognizes and acknowledges the difficulty that adults with epilepsy face. It is understood that seeking help from medical professionals is the best way to cope and potentially thrive. However, sometimes you need to listen to experiences straight from the horse’s mouth. In this context, hearing the experiences of people who live with epilepsy can help one understand epilepsy better.
Epilepsy can be viewed as a silent disease. Some seizures go unnoticed and seizures themselves are not the only difficulty one faces. The effects of medications and lifestyle hindrances such as the inability to drive can lead to a loss of independence. Dependence on others can make one feel as though they are a burden and takes a toll on one’s mental health. There is always an element of uncertainty that makes it difficult to plan ahead with conviction.
It is very easy to say that one should play the cards they have been dealt. It must be noted that there is always the thought of “what if?” that lingers in our minds.
